[Almost] Streaking through Fenway

Undie Run 1This is me!  I’m clearly kind of crazy because I’m outside in Fenway Park without a hat.  And it’s snowing.

It gets crazier.  I’m not wearing a shirt.  Or pants.

This weekend, my friend Phoebe and I ran a mile in our underwear with Cupid’s Undie Run to raise money for Children’s Tumor Foundation and fight NF (neurofibramatosis).  It was probably the best time I’ve ever had running for charity and definitely the best time I’ve had in Fenway Park.  Between the two of us, we raised $530!  That’s a lot of wonderful people in our lives that were able to donate to a wonderful cause.

Undie Run 2That’s Phoebe and I as we took our first lap into the bleachers.

Undie Run 3That’s us and our new friend Katchi (pronounced like the cereal, but “cha”).

If you lovely people want more information on the run that Phoebe and I are DEFINITELY DOING NEXT YEAR, you should check out http://www.cupidsundierun.com.  They have runs in so many cities across the US, and even one in Australia!  Don’t see yours listed and want to have one in your city?  Contact them–they’re always looking for new cities to add to this hilarious event!  You can explore #ImWithCupid for other photos of event in other cities, too!

Together, we can find a cure for NF.

ATL: where life decisions are made

I applied for my dream job here.  I broke up with a guy here.  I forever swore off IPAs here.  ATL is never a place I come intentionally, but where I somehow always end up.  There are worse places, really.  I’d rather be stuck with a long layover here than EWR.  I’d rather race through these terminals and hop on the Plane Train than have to race through PHL and wipe out on those moving walkways.  Because at least there is a Chick-Fil-A in Atlanta.

I come here this time on my way back to Boston from visiting my parents.  It’s weird to go home now.  My siblings aren’t there.  My old classmates aren’t there.  It seems like my only visits are to the dentist and this time, even my usual hygienist wasn’t there.  But I got to see him.

And I suppose this is the point where you 4 followers realize I am indeed a human with a back story.  More than 6 years ago, I fell in love for the first time.  Sure, we broke up, I was heartbroken, we got back together, I was heartbroken again, and then, I thought I was done with him.  After all, he moved off the continent and I stayed, but I guess I never really stopped loving him.  And not in a creepy and obsessive way.  I mean, how do you know you ever really know that the first person who stole your heart ever gave the whole thing back?

He’s the only one who ever really got me.  He’s still the only guy I’ve ever fallen for that might be smarter than me (just don’t tell him I admit that).  He’s a match for witty banter and for creating terrible puns.  He appreciates my quirks and has lots of his own that I love.  He knows that I always water down my apple juice, and that I point my toes when I stand and talk.  He’s come with me to get medianoches at midnight because I thought it would be fun.  I’ve begged for In-N-Out and, despite him trying to be paleo, he took me as soon as I landed at LAX.  We froze in the waters of Santa Monica and trekked through vortexes in Sedona.  We played MarioKart to prep for real go-karting.  And we laughed at my wipeouts while I learned to paddleboard.

And so, as I sit here at ATL waiting for my flight to change gates for the fourth time, I’m faced with another life decision.  Do I let him keep that tiny bit of my heart, or do I find a way to steal it back?

First Snow Day of 2014

I know it’s been forever since I’ve been on here, but there’s been a lot going on.  Part of the issue is that my laptop got stolen when my apartment was ransacked, so that set me back a few months.  That, and well, 2013 was the Year of Murphy (and his stupid law).  Bad stuff happened.  Which is why 2014 is going to be amazing.  My Cosmo Bedside Astrologer and my fortune cookie told me so.

I get to start my first week with ridiculously cold temperatures and a blizzard, which is surprisingly exactly what I needed.  I can finally tackle the growing problem known as my bedroom, bake lots of cookies, catch up on Breaking Bad (Netflix, why do you only have the first half of season 5?!?), and play in the snow in my backyard.  I’ve found the perfect sledding hill, but sadly lack a sled.  I’m considering eating dinner at Punjabi Dhaba and borrowing that metal tray for the night. (No, Erica.  People eat off of those!)

Instead, I’ll probably just enjoy the heat from my radiator (now that I’ve finally figured out how the heck these things work.  Evidently the incessant banging noises aren’t gnomes wanting out of the pipes.) and attempt to come up with this year’s resolutions.  NO LAUREN, I AM NOT AGREEING TO TRAINING FOR ANOTHER HALF MARATHON DURING THE BLIZZARD SEASON.  Better to put them in writing, right?  The 4 of you following this (which I really appreciate, seeing as I’ve provided you with so little content) can hold me accountable.

My New Year’s Resolutions:

  • put away all of my clean laundry within 24 hours of washing it
  • stop biting my nails (17th year of this one)
  • make my bed most mornings
  • be more selfish–stop doing everything for everyone else and nothing for me
  • update this blog more
  • find a new character in history to obsess over
  • watch Downton Abbey
  • finish my sunflower afghan

Ok, there they are.  I’ll update them if I think of more.  But it’s movie time.  Until next time!

Enter Title Here

If it isn’t already obvious, this is my first post.  Ever.  I’m also clearly title-y challenged.

My original intent in starting this site was to learn how to operate WordPress well enough to be able to manage our lab website.  So far, I’ve managed a template, a title, and a tagline.  And now this post.  Well, if it gets posted successfully.

There’s a chance no one will ever see this post, or really, this entire page.  Regardless, I’m going to finally try to follow through with my once-grand intentions to start a site of my own.  Let the games begin.
